August 1, 2026

Oh boy, was it a month. I started a reflective blog post which I never finished. I also have some big ideas for the website that I haven't started. What have I been doing, you may wonder?

Photo of four-ish year old me with someone in a McGruff the Crime Dog suit. I'm wearing a truly spectacular sunglasses/visor two in one

I spent two weeks at my mom's house because she's not doing well. During those two weeks I scanned every photograph my mom has ever taken. I've been home for roughly two weeks and am still working on getting them all cropped and uploaded to Immich. Please enjoy this photo of four-ish year old me at a Touch a Truck event with McGruff The Crime Dog.

Blog posts/website things I either started for real or in my head this month:

  • What to do when you think your mom is dying
  • My dad as a cryptid: A photo essay of that man just lurking in the background of photos
  • Self hosting and home server life
  • Vintage "fashion" I have stolen from my mom
  • An encyclopedia of being a 90s kid, as told by items in the background of my childhood photos
  • Am I at least as smart as a stoned record player technician in the 1970s??- Restoring my mom's 1971 whatever this is
  • But none of that exists. I've been in photo hell and stress cleaning instead. Which is fine. I'm so inspired to make web things when I have the time again.

    Stats

★ I went to the gym 6 times. I also did 5 workouts with recalled adjustable dumbbells that I have at my mom's house to try to keep up The Gains. I used the Hevy app for that and really liked it.

    ★ I read 4 books.

Do the DNFs count? I say they do.

    ★ I watched 3 movies.

I also half watched Widow's Bay while I was playing my Steam Deck. I found the ending a little lacking but the general atmosphere good.

My husband watched the first season of The Bear. It seems very yell-y. I asked him to explain it to me at the end and I could finish his sentences so I'm going to say that I watched The Bear. It wasn't very complicated.

★ I finished 0 crafts or personal projects.

I haven't even finished cropping the photos, man. I haven't had time to be creative.

    ★ I finished 2 video games.

    DNFs: Mass Effect: Andromeda.

Started playing Vampyr. It's a reasonable play for the sale price.

    ★ I saw 1 concert.

We saw Metric at MGM with Stars and Broken Social Scene for openers. I did not have a blog post in me for it.

It was enjoyable. I don't know that I would go out of my way to see them again because I've heard Help I'm Alive and Black Sheep now.

I do really like MGM as a venue. Sound was great. Visibility was good even though we got there late (totally missed Stars). Someone puked near us and staff came and cleaned the floor. The bar is in hell but they are at least clearing it. And they have free water at the bars that you don't have to ask for.

    Misc

★ I got my chargeback for the damn Olivia Rodrigo vinyl and was still so mad about the whole situation that I sold my concert tickets. I don't know if it's just because I sold them so early or what, but there wasn't even an option to try to sell them for face value. Ticketmaster is making bank off of her tour. They shouldn't be allowed to. The profit did soothe my soul a little bit, though.
